Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences

Group of medical student practicing a surgery.

In Buffalo, we are fortunate to benefit from a local academic health center anchored by the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This means that members of our community have access to advanced care provided by top doctors who also teach medical students, conduct research, and who work in concert with affiliated teaching hospitals and research centers. And it means our students receive a comprehensive education that exposes them to diverse clinical settings and prepares them to be physician-scientist leaders of tomorrow.

Donor support ensures that we will continue to attract bright minds, conduct groundbreaking research, and offer the highest level of care to the residents of Western New York, and ultimately, people around the world as we launch an ambitious ascent to national and global prominence.

Dr. John Bodkin JSMBS Buffalo Initiative Challenge
This UB Giving Day Dr. John Bodkin II (JSMBS Class of ’76) challenges 50 donors to give to the Buffalo Initiative, a three-year medical school program for students who, in exchange for medical school tuition paid in full, will enter a primary care residency upon graduation and pledge to work in the east or west side of the city of Buffalo for 5 years after completion of their training. If this challenge is met, Dr. Bodkin will pledge a $1,000 gift on top of the donations received on UB Giving Day, moving us closer to our goal of supporting 12 medical students per year in this program.
