UB Libraries are the knowledge center of the university. With more than 5 million print and electronic volumes and 35 subject librarians whose expertise covers virtually all disciplines at the university, UB Libraries enrich the scholarship, teaching and learning across campus and maximize the success of UB students, faculty, staff, and the community at-large.
One of the hallmarks of a great university library is its Special Collections, which provide scholars and the community alike with unprecedented access to an impressive scope of rare and distinctive materials. UB Libraries’ Special Collections - which consist of the Poetry Collection, History of Medicine Collection, Rare & Special Books Collection and University Archives – is no exception to this rule. In fact, The Poetry Collection holds the world’s largest, most comprehensive and most prestigious collection of materials by and related to James Joyce (1882-1941), the acclaimed Irish author widely recognized as perhaps the most influential writer of the twentieth century.
We are utilizing Giving Day to promote giving to all areas of the Libraries - and especially the James Joyce Collection as every Giving Day gift made in support of this preeminent archive will be matched up to $4,000 by the Amherst Gaelic League. Our vision to grant wider access and engagement to the UB James Joyce Collection, combined with your gift, is an unbeatable combination that will impact all members of the university, the WNY community and beyond.
In addition, UB Libraries is also promoting two additional funds on Giving Day:
The Linda Lohr Fund for the History of Medicine (HOM) Collection – in memory of Linda Lohr, the longtime curator of the HOM Collection, who passed away on April 24.
The Libraries Student Emergency Fund – to provide financial assistance to Libraries student employees in need
An investment in literature, scholarship and higher education is always an investment in our collective future—a future that will be brighter, stronger and bolder, thanks to you.
